Following the publication of our
last
article on August 28, 2009 about the
possible candidacy of Alhaji Kromah, Sam Kromah, and
others regarding the up-coming by-election to fill the
vacant senate seat made possible by the passing of Hon.
Hannah Brent, consultative meetings and discussions have
been held in the Mandingo communities both Liberia and
USA.
According to reliable sources from Monrovia, joint
meetings of prominent political leaders in the Mandingo
community in Liberia were held on Friday and Saturday to
discuss the possibility of fielding a single candidate
from the community. According to reports from these
meeting, it was agreed that it does not matter what is
the party affiliation of any candidate, our communities
at home and abroad are encouraged to pull their
collective weights behind that person.
The meeting which was held under the chairmanship of
Musa Bility, president of the National Mandingo Caucus
of Liberia was attended by both Alhaji Kromah and Sam
Mohammed Kromah. Speaking to Musa Bility in Monrovia he
said, "We all agree to study the possibility of
supporting a single candidate from our community. With
the number of our voting population in Montserrado
County, we stand better chance of winning if we all
support a single candidate and that's what we have been
having these consultative meetings since Friday
September 4, 2009."
According to the Mr. Bility, a committee was set up to
scrutinize all the potential candidates in our
community to compare and contrast their electability and
strategy to put in place for successful campaign and
victory. The committee is comprised of some outstanding
leaders of the community in Liberia. A meeting is
scheduled for Sunday, September 13, 2009 at which time
the committee will announce its founding.
The two
potential candidates at the top of the list are Prof. Alhaji Kromah and Sam Mohammed Kromah. In a show of
unity, both Kromahs agree to abide by the consensus
built from the scrutiny of the committee.

Speaking to Varfley Dolleh who is
currently here in the states, he made it
emphatically clear that he will “support
any candidate our people decide on. Even
though I have been named a potential
candidate, I will support anyone the
community decides on.” Speaking further
he said, “This is not about me or anyone
else, it’s about the interest of our
people.”
Many people I spoke to believe that this electoral
opportunity is a test of our commitment to unity. The
consensus being reached is for the communities at home
and abroad to unite behind one candidate.
Speaking in
this light, Ansumana Jabateh said, “This is one issue we
all can network and support that one candidate that will
represent our collective interests.” H stressed that
this is an important election and we have to get ready
for it with all the resources we can muster.”
All eyes are on Sunday September 13, 2009 for the
reports from the committee set up to scrutinize the
candidates being considered.
