The Alumni Association of the Muslim
Congress High School met on July 19, in
Philadelphia to discuss the need to
revamp the association since it last
activities past few years ago. The
meeting which drew great attendance
brought together Alumni, Well wisher,
former students and friend of Muslim
Congress High School.
After hours of deliberation it was agreed that a Home
Coming program be organized as a means of re-awakening
the spirit of the association. This occasion will
mobilize and sensitize the membership about the need to
support the work of the association and August 15 was
selected as the date for the holding of the program.
In order to make the Home Coming program successful
Bro. Kafumba Kenneth a 1996 graduate of Muslim Congress
High School was appointed as Chairman with the sole
responsibility of ensuring that the program be held.
The membership of the committee was open for members to
volunteer. During the life span of this committee the
following persons made significant contributions for the
success of the program, Miatta Abdul-Wahab, Abu Sillah,
Amos Kiadii, Musa V. Willie, Mariam Kaba, Aminata Kamara,
and Famod Konneh.
After numerous teleconferences organized by the Home
Coming Committee the body agreed that the out door
program be held on the 8th of August and the
indoor aspect of the program be postponed due to
unavailability of a hall. The outdoor activities was
arrange by the Home Coming committee to be held in
Philadelphia at (Finnegan Park, 6900 Grovens Ave.
Philadelphia PA).
On August 8th 2009, Alumni, Well wishers,
former students and friends of Muslim Congress High
School assembled at the Finnegan Park, 6900 Grovens
Ave. Philadelphia, PA to grace to the occasion. Most
of the participants were wearing white T-shirts printed
by the committee for fund raising purposes. The program
started late due to the slow arrival of the participant,
but the turn-out was beyond expectation.
The Opening prayer was done by Bro. Mohammed Baba
Sheriff while the welcome remarks were made by Sis
Fatumata Sillah. Stressing the objective of the program
Bro. Mohammed Baba Sheriff told the body that the
program was just a beginning of a new era for the
association and the forum was meant to sensitize and
motivate Alumni, Former students and Well wishers to
support the work of the association.
He was quick to point out that it was now time that the
young folks take over the association and bring in new
energy. He lauded the current leadership for their
commitment and dedication exhibited in the past. There
were also several speakers who stressed unity,
commitment and dedication as means to attaining the goal
of the association.
A moment of silence was announced in memory of the late
Saye Nyenkan, former teacher and Sports Director of the
Muslim Congress High School. In order to realize good
result from the strategic planning session which was
intended to pen down programs and projects for the
association, the session was cancelled due to time
factor. However, members were asked to submit their
names voluntarily so as to form a part of the strategic
planning session that is expected to be held in the last
week in August.
The committee members provided food and drink enough for
all participants. Bother Morris Kromah, FELMAUSA newly
elected Secretary General graciously pledged his Musical
System. The program was embraced and attended by the
leadership of LIMAP and FELMAUSA.
The day was climaxed with a spectacular Soccer match
between the LIMAP soccer Team and the Undefeatable boys
of the Crescent Kingdom. Bro Muctar Sheriff who could
not play due to the late arrival of his boot was the
Coach Player for the crescent Boys with Kafumba Kenneth
serving as the Captain. The game, which ended 3-2 in
favor of the boys of LIMAP was greatly criticized by the
spectators because many of the goals scored by the LIMAP
Team were outside goals. Bro MB Sheriff who came in
second half with an inexhaustible stamina initiated the
play for the Crescent Square second goal.
The defeat which is stay been questioned in Philly was
accepted for the sake of friendship. There was also kick
ball game for the girls, and congress girls won 7-4.
The Committee will like to extend it thanks and
appreciation to the Almighty Allah for his guidance and
strength and to all the members for the attendance and
contribution toward the success of the program. The
committee also extend it thanks and appreciation to
FELMAUSA.Org, LIMANY.Org, and LIMAP.Org for publicity
they provided that help make our occasion a success.
