Every organization of the size of the Federation of
the Liberian Mandingo Associations in the United
States of America (FELMAUSA) do host convention,
which is meant to discuss substantive issues
relevant to the aspirations of the organization. The
theme of this year convention is “Education: Our
Passport to the Future”.
It is FELMAUSA’s fervent belief that the only way
we can empower our community is through educational
initiatives. We therefore need to finally let go of
the unnecessary bickering among us and focus on
working together to craft a long and short-term plan
for the Mandingo Community. We hope that the
convention serve to highlight the need for Mandingo
unity in our quest to address the many challenges we
are faced with.
Let the reading public know that FELMAUSA will do
all it can to lay the foundation for a strong and
vibrant Mandingo Community that will contribute to
the rebuilding of our beloved country-Liberia.
At the conclusion of our 2nd annual
Convention, FELMAUSA will be launching a scholarship
fund to help our brothers and sisters at the
University of Liberia and other institutions. We
also plan to build a Mandingo cultural and research
center that shall help to highlight our
contributions to the establishment of Liberia. We
are also seriously contemplating the construction of
a secondary school that will provide quality
education to all Liberians. For the first time in
the Mandingo Community, FELMAUSA will be launching a
magazine call “The Mandingoes”. This magazine will
focus on topical issues and events in our community
and the world.
While we are proud of the establishment of FELMAUSA,
we cannot take sole credit for it. The idea of
FELMAUSA was conceived years ago by some of the
farsighted brothers and sisters in our community and
LIMANY played a major role. We are indebted to those
pioneers, who saw the need to establish an umbrella
organization, through which we can unite our
resources for the good of the larger Mandingo
Community.
FELMAUSA is saddened by LIMANY's statement
We are therefore sadden by the recent statement
posted on LIMANY website regarding the July 4-6
FELMAUSA’s Convention. As the oldest Mandingo
Association in the United States of America, we
expect LIMANY to be in the lead of any initiative
that will bring us together. In the spirit of our
share vision of empowering the Mandingo Community,
FELMAUSA is appealing to the people of New York, the
proud sons and daughters of the Mandingo ethnic
group to see the need to participate in this
all-important Convention in Philadelphia, PA.
On behalf of the executive leadership of FELMAUSA
and the entire membership, I want to thank the
people of New York for leading the way in creating
the first Mandingo Association in the United States
of America. As president of FELMAUSA, I am appealing
to the people of New York- the proud sons and
daughters of the Mandingo ethnic group- to join us
in-Philadelphia to make our people proud. Remember,
what we do here will impact our people in Liberia
and I hope we are up to the challenge.
Yes, there will be some socialization, which is
indicative of all conventions; but to characterize
the entire convention as such is disingenuous,
especially when we will be receiving prominent
personalities such as Dr. Augustine Konneh,
professor of history at More House College, Dr.
Abraham Kaba, Mr. Sam Mohamed Kromah, Hon. Sheikh
Muhammad Dukuly, former Senator, Cape Mount County,
rising political icon, Amara Konneh, who recently
graduated with honors from Harvard, and many other
credible opinion leaders in our community.
For the Good of our Community, I Remain
Richmond Mohamed Konneh
