Personality of the week is a weekly program created by our team to highlight the leadership and contributions of individual that are making a positive impact in our community. This week out personality is H.E. Ali Sylla from Liberia. He was born unto the bless union of Mr. & Mrs. Sylla in Monrovia/Liberia. Ali Sylla is currently the Minister Counselor and Deputy Chief of Mission, Embassy of the Republic of Liberia, Doha, State of Qatar. He was very active in the Liberian Diaspora Community activities in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
He used the King Sao Bosso Kamara Lecture Series to bring African immigrants and African-American community together. Ali Sylla holds a Master of Science Degree in Criminal Justice with emphasis in Applied Behavioral Analysis from the Saint Joseph University.
Haven realized that his enormous talents and creativity could be used in Liberia, he returns to his homeland in 2009. In Liberia, H.E. Sylla got himself involved into grassroots community empowerment campaign. He served as founding father for “1. Forum for the Advancement of Liberian Mandingo and their Descendent; 2. Coalition of Islamic Youth Organization (CIYOL); 3. Center for Counseling and Restorative Dialogue.
He also served as professor at the AME Zion University. Ali worked as psychosocial Counselor, Senior Executive Service under the Civil Service Agency arrangement; Director of National Probation at the Ministry of Justice.
As a member of the ruling Unity Party, Ali ran unsuccessfully for the Senate in Montserrado County in 2014. Based on his contributions to Interfaith, Peace and Reconciliation works in Liberia and around the world, including the recent debate he took against the proposition 24 (Christian Nation). He was just awarded in the FELMAUSA 2016 Convention with the ‘Sheikh Kafumba Konneh Humanitarian Award’ called the Giant Tree Award, by the leadership of the Federation of Liberian Mandingo Association in the United State of America (FELMAUSA).
Ali Sylla is a son of a well-known and respected businessman and philanthropist, the late Alhaji Solomani Sylla from Liberia. Ladies and gentlemen please congratulate our brother H.E. Ali Sylla for his tremendous community work and for been nominated as Personality of the week (POTW).
